Based in Lagos, Nigeria, trumpeter Etuk Ubong draws inspiration from afrobeat, funk, jazz, highlife and ekombi. This was crystallised in one EP and one album so far, but the former side man of Femi Kuti is currently working on new material. A recent performance at an excited Steam Down in London, where he was joined by Theon Cross (Sons of Kemet) on tuba, showed the upcoming EP promises to be pure fire. A first sample is out there already: Black Debtors – a groovy piece with a powerful message, summing up all the « black debts Nigerians are tired of ». An indictment that might heat up your dance floor this summer.
