LAGOS THUGS – INNOCENT BLOOD (Let it be known) par Dj Ness Afro

Une nouvelle chronique de Dj Ness Afro, cette fois, il nous présente Lagos Thugs:

Released worlwide, this is the original long version for Afrodiziak Festival
Their first single denounces the Lekki massacre that happened on October 20, 2020 at the Lekki toll plaza in Lagos, Nigeria. The Nigerian government sent army tanks to attack unarmed peaceful demonstrators, according to Amnesty International the toll of the massacre was heavy with over 120 demonstrators killed and hundreds injured.
This Afro Beat band was already praised by Fela Kuti’s trumpeter, Muyiwa Kunnuji, when he discovered a short video taken live:  » Fifteen musicians, in their twenties, playing exactly as we did. The same energy! They’re playing proper Afrobeat  » enthuses the forty-year-old trumpeter, who accompanied the iconic Fela during the last years of his career.
Founded in 2020 by Adetunji Adeyemi under the name « The Lagos Thugs Afrobeat », the group performed for the first time on 29 January 2021 at the Bature Brewery in Lagos during a musical evening organised by the famous Nigerian trumpet player ETUK UBONG. In the following weeks, the group consolidated with a core of fifteen members and expanded its repertoire of original compositions. In the first year of the band’s existence, they managed to secure a Friday night residency at Bature Brewery Vi in March 2021; the residency lasted from March until the opening ceremony, which they always headlined. They also played a gig last summer for the famous Sofar Sounds website! Saxophonist and singer Adetunji Adeyemi wrote several of their songs and oversaw the recording and production. Lagos Thugs are touring Nigeria in december and on New Year’s eve they will be opening for Seun Kuti whom recently collaborated with Common & Black Thought from The Roots.
A full album of Lagos Thugs is in the works for 2022 !
